Adopting A Child

Welcome to Reach out to Haiti a non-profit organization. God has chosen Barbara Walker as one of his tools to save his children in the extremely poor country of Haiti . Barbara has endured Haiti ‘s heat, poverty, disease, wars and natural disasters for almost 20 years working 18-20 hour days 7 days a week for the safety, health and fulfillment of dreams for the children of Haiti and their adoptive families.

Do I need to be married to adopt?

  • The answer is no-you do not have to be married to adopt from Haiti . Sometimes it actually faster not having a spouse. But if you are married, you must be married for at least 10 years.

How old do I have to be to adopt?

  • One of you has to be at least 35 years old to adopt. That means either you or your spouse must be at least 35 years old.

Do I have to be religious?

  • Barbara Walker is a devoted Christian that has been very blessed in her journey with the Lord. She adopts to Christians who will raise the children to know and understand the glory of God. Barbara requires a letter in writing from your church supporting you as a Christian.

Is it OK to have other children?

  • It is much easier if you don’t have any biological children. The Haitian Government has a real issue with people who have their own children and want adopt from Haiti . If you do have biological children and wish to adopt,  it still is possible it just will take a longer.

How does it work if I have a biological child?

  • The paperwork and adoption goes through as normal but before it can be completed it must get a Presidential waver giving his approval.

What does it cost to adopt?

  • The cost is currently $10,000USD to adopt a child. Also, there is $300USD per month for childcare after your child has been chosen.  Barbara is a non-profit and makes absolutely nothing off of an adoption of a child. The money is for paperwork, legal fees, medical procedures, pictures and other costs the child may have.

Do I have to pay up front?

  • PAYMENT SCHEDULE: $50 Application Fee to be sent in with the initial application
  • $5000 due when sending your dossier to us
  • $5000 due when dossier enters IBESR
  • Childcare due monthly
  • Airfare due upon delivery of child[ren]

About how long does it take for a adopion to complete?

  • The timeframe on adoptions currently is questionable because the Haitian government has taken a big hit and is basically non-functioning. All adoptions done by us will be executed to the best of our abilities.

To everyone who has called and emailed asking about initiating a new adoption, thank you for your interest and desire to help with the children in Haiti.

Reach Out to Haiti has been informed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services that we can not arrange or facilitate adoptions unless and until we are approved to do so by the State of New York. Because of the directive from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Reach Out to Haiti will not accept any applications or carry out any adoption related activities until approved to do so by the State of New York. We will keep you informed on our progress in obtaining New York State approval.
